The majority of British people want to ban the burqa in public, according to a new poll.
The YouGov survey found 57 per cent wanted to get rid of the Islamic face covering, while 25 per cent were in favour of keeping it.
In a second poll 46 per cent of people wanted to ban the burkini, but 30 per cent said they didn’t want the swimwear outlawed like it was in some parts of France.

People over 65 were the most enthusiastic about the ban, with 78% voting for it.
The 18 to 24-year-old age group was the only one that had a majority which opposed the prohibition.
The burkini ban in France has since been overruled by courts but the country still doesn’t allow the burqa as a security measure.
