A seven-year-old Indian girl, E. Hanifa Zaara, has called on the police to arrest her father after he failed to redeem his promise to build an indoor toilet.
A police spokesman, A. Valarmathi, on Wednesday, said the girl didn’t want to defecate in the open again and got her father to promise to build a lavatory indoors, reports The News
But when no toilet was built she went to the police to lodge a complaint, Valarmathi revealed.
“The girl was adamant on having her father arrested as she felt cheated,” Valarmathi said.
“We then rang up her father, called him to the police station and made them shake hands and compromise.”
India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi’s government has been pushing a campaign to build 100 million toilets over five years but the drive has not covered large parts of the country.
Millions of Indians do not have access to sanitation and open defecation is a problem.
