An employee of a security company, Paul Njoku, who allegedly gave false information to police, appeared before an Igbosere magistrate’s court, Lagos, yesterday.
Njoku, 48, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a one-count charge of providing false information, preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor, ASP Eshiet Eshiet, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 29, 2015, at Zone 2, Police Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.
He said the defendant falsely informed police that some staff of Fountain Source Nigeria Ltd. converted the company’s property to their own use.
According to the prosecutor, Njoku informed police that Mr. D!ckson Igboche, Patrick Onomhante, Evans Azuike, and Segun Andrew, converted vehicles of Fountain Source, a security company, to another company’s use.
Eshiet also said that the defendant had wrongly informed the police that Igboche, Onomhante, Azuike and Andrew, had formed another company named Fountain Guard Ltd., and converted vehicles of Fountain Source to Fountain Guard’s use.
The prosecutor further told the court that the defendant knew that the information he gave to the police was false.
He said that the offence committed is Punishable Under Section 96 (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, Mrs F. M. Dalley, granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She said that the sureties must be blood relations of the defendant, who must show evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She also said that the court should verify the addresses of the sureties and adjourned the case to February 28 for mention.
