THE WHITE House has gone into lockdown after an armed man was shot by the Secret Service after approaching a checkpoint at the President’s official residence, US police have said.
According to officers at the scene, the shooting happened on the corner of 17th and East streets North West, in D.C. Local US media are reporting that cops shot a Caucasian male at the scene.
The armed man reportedly brandished his weapon and refused to drop it before being shot in the abdomen by officials.
According to a D.C. fire department representative, the victim is in a critical condition and was rushed to hospital immediately.
The shooting is thought to have occurred at approximately 2pm local time, with the lockdown ending at around 4pm.
