The German Mission has informed its citizen’s resident in Nigeria of its intention to airlift nationals wishing to leave over fears of the spread of the deadly COVID-19 disease in the country.
The Mission in a statement on Monday said that it is collating list of interested nationals and has asked them to fill forms on its website.
“Due to the extraordinary circumstances with regard to COVID-19, temporary entry restrictions were decided for Germany and international air traffic to and from Nigeria until April 23rd.
“Some compatriots and their family members were able to leave Nigeria before the above measures were introduced”, it said.
“The German embassy in Abuja and the German consulate general in Lagos want to determine as reliably as possible the number of German compatriots and their family members who are still in Nigeria and are interested in returning to Germany,” the statement added.
This development comes after no fewer than 70 Israeli nationals were evacuated from Nigeria by Air Peace airline on Saturday over fears of the spread of the deadly COVID-19 disease.
Reports say those who were flown out of the country by Air peace are among persons who signified their intention to leave Nigeria since the outbreak of the dreaded COVID-19 in the country.
Further reports reveal that the flight which operated as “an essential flight” departed Nigeria through the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and had 17 crew members bringing the number of persons on board to 87.
