But for once, Messi fluffed it on the big stage with cameras capturing the moment he gave Antonella an awkward kiss in front of the entire reception.
When the video surfaced on social media, the Argentinean was mercilessly mocked.
“Lmaooo Messi can do the impossible with a football but can’t kiss a girl,” wrote one.
The pair later came out on the red carpet to pose for photos in front of the world’s press and Messi did a slightly better job.
Messi has known Antonella since he was five-years-old as she is the cousin of his best friend, fellow footballer Lucas Scaglia.
They have two young sons, Thiago and Mateo.
Over 250 guests attended the ceremony, with a host of Barcelona and Premier League stars past and present turning out on the red carpet on Friday evening.
