Kennedy Agyapong has called for the perpetrators of the 90-year-old woman labeled a witch’s murder to face the firing squad.
The firebrand, in a phone-in conversation with NET 2 TV’s Justice Kweku Annan on the Hot Seat Show, condemned the disgraceful act and asked for the culprits to be charged with treason and killed.
Mariama Akua Denteh, a 90-year-old resident of the Kafaba community in the East Gonja district of the Savannah Region was lynched by locals who accused her of witchcraft.
The President reported while addressing the Central Gonja community that 5 suspects had been arrested in the case awaiting trial in court.
However, The MP for Assin Central asked the President to take much more stringent measures to prevent such inhumane acts from ever occurring again.
”I now understand why Rawlings would sentence some Ghanaians to death by the firing squad during his military regime. Some Ghanaians are just unbelievable. Everyone involved in the woman’s murder should be charged with treason and sentenced to death by firing squad”, he said.
The outspoken politician added that the showing in the Gonja community has vindicated his fight against religious hypnotism in the country.
He said, ”Like I always say Religion is impeding progress in this country. For Some people to kill an innocent woman with others shamelessly watching because some priestess said she is a witch is just crazy. I thank God that even whilst I’m alive people have seen my words play out in broad daylight. This is what I have been fighting against.”
