The sixth episode of the Maltavator Challenge brought to you by Africa’s Premium Malt Drink, Malta Guinness, was filled with hyper-energy and vitality as the final five semi-finalists battled it out in a series of mental and physical challenges to see who would progress to the next round.
Appearing in this episode were Arthur Ebili Moutapam from Cameroon; the only remaining lady, Kouakou Elodie from Cote d’Ivoire; Emmanuel Gyefa from Ghana; Leo Obiyeni from Nigeria and Tewodros Asegu from Ethiopia.
They each faced three challenges to take one step closer to the grand prize of $20,000. They started with the biggest obstacle, the B Booster, and were tasked with making their way across the inflatable in the fastest time.
Leo from Nigeria went up first with hopes that his competitors would underestimate his abilities to give him an edge. He made it across the course in the fastest time.
Arthur from Cameroon followed after. He hopped over the course swiftly and showed off after with some impressive celebrations!
Emmanuel from Ghana went up with the belief that his power and athleticism will give him an edge. He started strong but fell off the first ball and had to go back to the start. He made his way over in just over half a minute.
Proudly representing Ethiopia, accounting student, Tewodros from Ethiopia went up for his turn with so much energy and impressive jumping skills. He made it over in around 20 seconds.
The last contestant to take on the B Booster was Kouakou who was not just representing Cote d’Ivoire, but also all the female contestants! She hopes to win the grand prize so she can finish the construction of her farm. She had a good run and finished in half a minute.
Having shown off their physical skills, the contestants now faced the Maltavuzzle to challenge their mental abilities. The tricky test tasked them to assemble a puzzle as quickly as possible but within 12 minutes. Leo and Arthur took the lead for this task but when they all struggled to complete the puzzle in the allocated time, they had 12 minutes added to their times.
Luckily, the Maltavators fared better in the Malta Duck and Dive with some of the best performances we’ve seen in this round! As in the previous two episodes, the contestants had to duck and dive with speed, agility and skill under a barrier without being knocked down. They were all aiming to stay on their pedestal for as long as they can in two minutes.
Leo from Nigeria was up first and thought he might stay on for the full two minutes. He certainly gave it a good go but after a couple of near misses, the barrier finally got the better of him just before the time was up – so close! Arthur from Cameroon was also optimistic about staying on for the two minutes. He showed a great effort displaying great balance and jumping skills. He was also taken down by the barrier just before the time was up.
It was the turn of Tewodros from Ethiopia next and you might have thought he’d be at a disadvantage as the barrier was almost the same height as him. He put in one of the most impressive performances we’ve seen with the jumping skills of a pro! And he managed to stay on for the full 2 minutes – well done Tewodros!
Emmanuel from Ghana was next to tackle the challenge. He gave a strong performance and also managed to stay strong for almost full time. The last Maltavator to take on the challenge was Kouakou from Cote d’Ivoire who took on the moving barrier with super bouncing skills. In spite of a great effort, she was defeated in just under a minute.
These were great performances all around, but had these five Maltavators done enough to make it through to the next round? Ehiz and Regina had the results.
Going into the next round to represent Cote d’Ivoire are Elisee and Hermann; for Cameroon were Chris and Basseck. Representing Ghana are Emmanuel and Ibrahim and for Nigeria are Abdullahi and Melvin, and finally going through for Ethiopia are Tewodros and Elias.
There are just two weeks left before we see who will be crowned champion of the Maltavator Challenge season 2.
