It is no longer news that a NPFL player, Ezekiel Bassey has just signed for FC Barcelona.
However, his journey to one of the biggest club on the continent was as a result of of the falout of the LMC/LA LIGA patnership which saw a NPFL selected side play three games against top La Liga teams in pre season friendly games to further solidify the relationship between both parties.
A seasoned sports journalist, Adewale Ajayi t further gave an insight on his facebook status on how young Bassey broke all protocols to ensure that he got his visa stamped same day for fis trip to Spain.Excerpts:
“On Thursday January 26 at about 8:30 am Ezekiel Bassey arrived the Spanish Embassy in Abuja with documents from FC Barcelona. At exactly 9: 30pm, his visa was stamped and ready for collection.
By 10pm same day,the twenty year old Akwa Ibom prodigy was airborne to Madrid where four chieftains of FC Barcelona were waiting to receive the player who two seasons ago was playing for Akwa Ibom starlets before moving one ladder to Akwa United Football and just last season he joined Enyimba of Aba.
Enyimba FC Chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu says this is the first time a player is moving strainght fom NPFL to FC Bacrcelona”.
