Union FNV is calling on KLM cabin crew members to start with labor actions on Wednesday. During these actions the crew members will adhere strictly to the letter of all KLM rules, with no flexibility. This is in protest against the airline’s plan to remove one flight attendant from a number of long flights, ANP reports.
FNV demanded that KLM scraps this cost cutting measure. But the airline refused. Which is why the union is turning to labor actions, which will increase in severity as long as KLM remains inflexible.
“Protests only work if KLM suffers from it”, the union said. “We will make sure of that.”
Strictly following all KLM rules and regulations before takeoff will take longer than the airline allows for it, according to the union. This could result in a number of flights not departing on time.
KLM responded that it is regrettable that FNV prefers labor actions to dialogue. The airline adds that staff members are always supposed to operate strictly according to the rules. KLM will therefore assume that the action will have no affect on flights.
