How to manage the weight loss pressure

Eating healthy and exercising is one of the core secrets to long life. Staying fit keeps the health problems away and boosts your mental and emotional health as well.

There is no doubt that healthy living is important. However, there is such a thing as toxic reinforcement when it comes to weight loss.

It’s not easy to be constantly pressured by the world to eat this and work on that when you’re already trying your best to do better. You don’t have to cave in to what people say while you’re on your weight loss journey.

1. Openly communicate how you feel
It’s important to let your friends and family know how you feel about the comments they make.

Sometimes they might not even know they’re offending you which is why you should honestly tell them that you don’t appreciate some of the ‘helpful’ things they say. This will help you set boundaries and ease the pressure you’re feeling.

2. Confront the mean inner voice
One of the hardest things anyone can deal with is self-criticism. It’s easier to tell others to stop saying certain things but when it comes to that inner voice, the challenge is twice as hard.

Mean inner thoughts sneak in randomly but you can train yourself to stop them before they take control. Be aware when you’re starting to shift into a negative space and gain control early.

3. Avoid self-comparison
No weight loss journey is identical to another. Everyone has a unique body with their own challenges that responds differently to work outs and diets.

If you’re focused on comparing yourself to others, you will never appreciate your own journey. It’s okay to find motivation through others but your main priority should be yourself.

4. Celebrate your milestones
Seeing how far you have come since you began working out is the best way to keep you focused. You realize that you don’t need to force yourself to go overboard with your work outs or the diets because you’re going one step at a time while celebrating your progress.

When reach your goal weight, throw yourself a mini party by having your favourite dessert or cheat meal or treat yourself to a spa day.

5. Don’t take things too personally
You won’t always completely shield yourself from the comments that others make. In spaces like social media where random comments stream in, you might see a few that discourage you.

This can also happen when you’re out in public and notice people staring directly at you. The best thing you can do is to not take comments and stares too seriously. If you do, they will definitely affect how you feel about yourself.
