Once George Maluleka leaves for Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs will face a tricky situation if they want to bring in long-time target Thabang Monare.
Maluleka turned down a two-and-half-year contract extension at Naturena to sign a pre-contract with The Brazilians, according to Chiefs’ official statement.
The Glamour Boys now face a quandary as one of their known transfer targets in Monare looks unsettled after he was reported to have turned down a new offer from the Students to keep him beyond next season.
The former Jomo Cosmos midfielder’s contract with Wits is set to expire at the end of June, although the club has a one-year option.
“Monare’s contract with Wits expires at the end of this season and the club is yet to exercise their one-year option,” a source tells KickOff.com.
“Wits have come up with a new offer but it’s far below what other senior players are earning at the club. He has been loyal to the team and deserves better.”
Chiefs will be alerted by these reports that the player could be unhappy at Wits, but will need to win their appeal to CAS to have their two-window transfer ban lifted.
The problem is Bobby Motaung will be unable to negotiate any new deals until there is a resolution in the ‘Dax’ matter, but their appeal has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The Absa Premiership league leaders might now have to wait until June 2021 to sign Monare as a free agent, if he stays at Wits next season, and presuming he doesn’t sign a pre-contract with another team in January 2021.
