Madagascar sacks Health minister
Madagascar has fired its Health minister, Ahmad Ahmad a month after he sought international help on behalf of the country.
The country made this announcement on Thursday and said the dismissal of the health minister was a part of government reshuffle.
This was revealed in the announcement of new list of ministers following a reshuffle.
Despite the official promotion of a controversial herbal drink “Covid Organics” presented as a remedy of the virus, the country witnessed a spike in COVID-19 cases in July.
The herbal medicine was not accepted by WHO because it had no scientific studies to back it up.
The president ignored WHO signals and further blamed the surge in cases last month on “increased testing capacity”.
Hospitals in the country ran out of bed spaces and equipment which prompted the health minister, Ahmad Ahmad to write a letter to international agencies to send medical equipment.
The country’s president, Andry Rajoelina administration was angered by his act and said Ahmad acted without consulting either the government or head of state.
“Jean Louis Hanitrala Rakotovao has been named new health minister,” cabinet secretary Valery Ramonjavelo told a press conference, without giving details about the change.
The country has recorded over 14,000 infections, of which 177 deaths have been fatal.
